Here is how I make my delicious smoothies

There are two versions:

When I am too lazy to activate the blender (or simply want a lighter drink), I add almond milk, a scoop of hemp protein powder - ShapeShift or Transform – and bee pollen. All goes into that shaker cup; a few shakes and a couple of minutes later we are good to go.

When I do use the blender, I get a bit more sophisticated. It is usually when I need a full meal, often to take with me somewhere (though I definitely drink it at home as well). The base is almond milk, hemp protein powder – ShapeShift or Transform – and then, various additions. From the following additions, I don’t always add all of them at the same time; I experiment, with a strong preference to green leafy vegetables. Almost always an apple, because I love them. A few stalks of celery. A couple of leafs of rainbow chard. A few mint leaves. Love adding a handful of frozen blueberries. A few pre-soaked almonds (raw, pre-soaked overnight, to break down the enzyme inhibitors that prevent us from fully digesting them). A banana.

It takes a bit of time to experiment with the various combinations, to see what works for you (just like everything else in life, really). For instance, one thing I discovered that in the mornings, my body needs more solid food and smoothies don’t work best for me. The afternoons, into early (or late) evenings, work the best. Also, quantities and combinations of ingredients are a bit of fun to play with. Try some combinations, and if you find something really great, do share – I love trying new things in this way.

I found that almond milk is really the best for me, as I am not consuming dairy, and don’t think soy is that healthy anyway. On an occasion, I will have the brown rice milk, yet find that I always come back to almond milk. In Vancouver, BC, Canada, the best places to buy it are Dollar’s Grocer, which is on Commercial and 6th (right beside JJBean) - $5 for 2, or Donald’s Market – either on Commercial and 7th, or the main one on E.Hasting and Nanaimo. They often have them on sale, and at $3.99 for 2, it can’t be beat. On such sales, I simply go and buy a case.
